Nothing else I have seen about the aftermath of the terror has been so human, so broad and complex; and nothing else has brought home so acutely the pain

Film-maker Katharine English made contact with two nearby ‘fire-houses’ and earned the trust of the devastated survivors and colleagues before the dust had begun to settle on Ground Zero. The massive rescue operation following the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in which 343 New York firemen died, created a deep and unbreakable bond between the men involved in the tragedy. Over the six weeks following the 9/11 attack, this film tells the story of two city firehouses, looking at how the men coped with the aftermath, arranged funerals, and made sure there were enough men on watch to do the job while trying to look after the wives and children of their lost colleagues.
